Principal's Message

I am delighted to welcome you to this institution of higher learning. It is indeed an honor and a privilege for me to be at the helm of affairs of this Institution. This College was established in the year 2005, named after Hassan Khoyihami-a great native historian and a poet. Pir Gh Hassan Shah popularly known as Hassan Khoyihami lived during 19th century in a village at Gamroo who wrote 4-volumes dealing with geography, politics and on all aspects of human life including saints, reshis, poets of medieval and modern times. Cradled in the lap of nature, the College is situated on the top of a hillock, an idyllic place surrounded by a majestic bulwark of mountains on almost three sides; the front side gives a panoramic view of the famous Wullar Lake-the largest fresh water lake in Asia. From the top, one can easily view verdure plains, terrains, distant scattered hamlets surrounded by majestic snow clad mountains sparkling like a jewel in the crown. Undoubtedly, it is a wondrous place with an amazing ambience for the transaction of education and other literary activities.

This College is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is affiliated to Kashmir University. It offers courses in areas as diverse as Language, Social Science, Commerce, Science and Computer Applications in 22-subject combinations leading to 6-semester BA/BSc/BCom degree. Besides, the UGC sponsored add-on job-oriented courses are under way to be introduced in various branches of Physical and Biological Sciences and Business-oriented courses. During the last 15 years nearly 5000 students have graduated from this College. At present the College has an enrollment of around 3000 students pursuing various degree courses. The students of the College have participated in various academic and sports events at the state and national levels. Some of the students have brought glories to the institution with their active participation in Kick Boxing, Wushu, Pencak Silat, Muathai Boxing and Taekwondo championship and bagged various awards including Bronze, Silver and Gold medals.

The College has well qualified, brilliant and dedicated faculty and a trained non-teaching supporting staff. Most of our faculty is with Doctorates/Postdocs who are excellent researchers. They are with an incredible energy and enthusiasm to ensure that the students are given every possible support and guidance in all their endeavors to widen their knowledge base beyond the confines of syllabi. The College is equipped with state of the art laboratories, computer facilities, library and information centre and round the clock Internet facilities. In the semester pattern Choice Based Credit System, the students have to be very punctual to earn credits. But they need to realize that college education is not only teaching-learning transaction confined to class rooms but also an academic interaction through debates, seminars, workshops and other programs. The college encourages and provides opportunities to the students to take part in co-curricular/extra- curricular activities to explore their capabilities and areas of interest in all-round development of their personality.

We are here to focus on the holistic development of individual students which includes intellectual as well as creative and innovative skills. The College is going to create a full-fledged Placement and Training Centre to organize several training programs related to the development of soft skills which can help our students to become employable. In times to come, we are determined to embark upon various seminars, workshops, lectures, cultural, sports and social activities, so that students are benefitted. I call upon every stakeholder- students, teaching and non-teaching staff, parents and alumni- to put concerted efforts together towards achieving academic excellence.

  • Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors.
