HKM Degree College Bandipora under the aegis of AZADI KA AMRIT MOHATSAV- Har Ghar Tiranga Program” organized a seminar today on 08/08/2022 on the theme ''Role of Women in the Indian Freedom Struggle''. The program was organized by Departments of Education and Sociology in collaboration with NSS Units of the College under the patronage and guidance of Principal Dr Mohd Amin Malik. While inaugurating the program Dr Malik gave an overview of the Indian Freedom Struggle and the role women played. Dr Malik shared the stories of women like Sarojini Naidu, Vijay Lakshmi Pandit, Rani Lakshmi Bhai etc who participated and made heroic sacrifices in the Indian fight for freedom from the colonial rule.
The proceedings of the program were conducted by Prof Yasmeena Ahad, Head Department of Education. The main aim of the program was to raise awareness among the students about the role women played and the sacrifices made by them in the struggle for freedom of India during the times when women were supposed to remain confined to the domestic chores and the public life was considered to be the exclusive domain of male elites. A good number of students from different semesters participated in the competition. The program was attended by the teaching and non-teaching faculty, students and NSS Volunteers of the College. The speech competition was held in the auditorium of the College. The jury for the program included Dr Rafia and Dr Faseeha Farooq and they placed Ms Tabeer Javaid of 3rd Sem, Ms Iram Jan of 4th Sem and Ms Ubaida Iqbal of Sem 4th at first, second and third positions respectively.
The Vote of Thanks was presented by Dr Gousia Yaseen, Department of Sociology.
