The Independence Day of India is celebrated religiously throughout the country on 15th of August every year. HKM Degree College Bandipora celebrated 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' marking the 75th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor. The faculty, non-teaching staff, students, NSS volunteers, NCC Cadets assembled at the college campus early in the morning. The National Flag was unfurled by the Principal of the College, Dr. Mohd Amin Malik, followed by recitation of National Anthem by the staff, NCC Cadets and the students of the college. On this occasion a gourd of honor was presented by the NCC cadets. Speaking on the occasion, the principal greeted the audience with good wishes and presented historical perspective of Indian freedom movement which culminated in India achieving independence on 15th of August 1947 from British rule. He said that Independence Day instills a sense of pride, harmony, loyalty and patriotism towards the country and reminds all of us towards our duties for our country. The principal remarked that this auspicious day provides us the occasion for introspection and taking stock of the achievements, current scenario of academic and non-academic works and future endeavors to be under taken. Dr Malik highlighted the achievements of the college like the fencing of college campus, construction of prefabricated huts, up-gradation of laboratories and library, creation of browsing centre, Botanical garden and various other facilities for the students. On this occasion NSS volunteers, NCC cadets and winners in the essay competition were facilitated with mementos and cash prizes. Later on, a colorful cultural program was held in which students showcased their talent and enthralled the audiences with skits and songs on the theme of Patriotism and Unity in Diversity. The ceremony culminated with the vote of thanks by Dr. Sheikh-ul-Ashraf, Staff Secretary of the college. The proceedings of the event were conducted by Prof. Shabir Ahmad Parray.
